
Mercer Scores 20 Runs In Victory Over Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --Â Sophomore Ty Dalley put together an outstanding performance at the plate Saturday, hitting two homers to help propel the Mercer Bears (24-21, 5-8 SoCon) over the Samford Bulldogs (30-16, 11-3 SoCon) 20-15.
Sophomore Jess Ackerman got the win for Mercer, pitching four innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing four walks and striking out six. Junior Bryce Hawkins also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Dalley went 4-for-6 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with a double while driving in six runs. Junior Bradley Frye added to Dalley's power-hitting performance by going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI along with one walk. Senior Noah Best also helped out for the Bears, going 1-for-4 with a home run, two walks and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears scored in seven different innings on the way to the win. Mercer took the lead for good at 7-4 in the third inning. Samford gained momentum halfway through the game, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Mercer did not surrender the lead.
