MACON – The 25th-ranked Mercer football team donned full pads for the second time this week on Thursday as head coach Mike Jacobs took his squad through a myriad of drills in preparation for the first scrimmage of the preseason on Sunday morning.
Â
"We got a little bit more of the same today," Jacobs said. "We've been harping on consistency and getting one day better. You can't talk about being a physical football team, you have to practice that way in all three phases (offense, defense, special teams). I've been really impressed with how our coordinators have been good with the installs and, more importantly, how much our players have been able to ingest and learn on the fly."
Â
Mercer is back in shells (helmet/shoulder pads) on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., and will go through a helmets-only practice at 4 p.m. on Saturday following the Athletics Department's annual Fan Day in Hawkins Arena. Fan Day is scheduled to take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the University Center's Heritage Hall.
