MERCER VS. THE IVY LEAGUE
Saturday's matchup in Princeton Stadium will mark just the third time in the 51+-season history of its program that Mercer will face an Ivy League squad, and the first road game against such foes in seven years ... The Bears dropped a 35-28 contest at Yale on Oct. 13, 2018, and rekindled its rivalry against the Ivy League with a 34-7 home win over Princeton last season.
 SCOUTING THE TIGERS | |||
Princeton returned 10 starters (4 offense, 6 defense) from last season's 3-7 squad that registered a 2-5 (T-6th of 8) mark in Ivy League play ... Â Among the returners for the Tigers is quarterback Blaine Hipa who threw for 1,665 and 10 touchdowns on 55.1 percent passing ... Senior Marco Scarano returns to pace the Princeton defense after recording a team-best 11-1/2 tackles for loss in 2024 ... The Tigers showcase FCS's 31st-best passing offense (246.7 passing yards/game), as well as the nation's 18th-best red zone offense (91.7%).
 MU AWAY FROM HOME | |||
Mercer is 31-39 (.443) in true road games since football returned to campus in 2013, including a 31-27 (.534) clip against FCS competition ... The Bears are 22-20 on the road against Southern Conference foes since joining the league prior to the 2014 campaign ... MU has captured nine of its last 14 regular season road games heading into Saturday's game at Princeton.
 RUSHING YARDS AT A RARITY
Mercer has held three of its last four opponents under 100 rushing yards, and currently ranks sixth among the 126 FCS schools with 88.2 rushing yards per game allowed … It's no rarity, however, as the Orange & Black has limited opponents to 100 yards or less in 14 of its 19 outings (74%) under head coach Mike Jacobs and defensive coordinator Jahmal Brown … The Bears boasted the nation's best rushing defense (70.8) last season.
 NEXT WEEK FOR THE BEARS | |||
Mercer will get a much-needed midseason break on October 18 with the second of two scheduled bye weeks. The Bears will return to action on October 25 when they suit up to battle Southern Conference rival VMI at Five Star Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting MercerBears.com/Tickets. |
