
Bears Set To Host Pair Of Midweek Contests With Florida A&M

MACON – The Mercer baseball team continues their eight-game home stand by welcoming Florida A&M to OrthoGeorgia Park for a pair of midweek contests starting on Tuesday. The Bears enter the week riding a six-game winning streak, taking the final two games of the Opening Weekend series against Milwaukee before taking down in-state rival Kennesaw State on the road on Wednesday and sweeping a three-game set with Kent State over the weekend.

The Bears collected three hard-earned wins against Kent State over the weekend to earn their first sweep of the season.
In Friday's series opener, the Bears used a four-run sixth inning to defeat the Flashes by a score of 9-5. Freshman Kai Decker (3-for-4) had a three-hit day, including his first career home run, while Bradley Frye (3-for-5) drove in a pair of runs in his own three-hit effort to power the Bears offensively. Left-hander Jess Ackerman (1-0) dominated in relief to pick up the win, limiting Kent State to one run with seven strikeouts across 4-1/3 innings.
On Saturday, the Mercer offense led the charge with 15 hits and the bullpen came up clutch in the final innings to help the Bears defeat the Flashes by a score of 7-6. Frye (3-for-5), Ty Dalley (3-for-4) and Zack Thompson (3-for-4) all had three-hit performances, while Brant Baugcum (1-for-2) delivered a two-run homer to highlight a 3-RBI day in the batter's box. Jeb Johnson (2-0) picked up his second win in three games with 1 – 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Terry Busse locked down his second consecutive save with two huge ninth inning strikeouts.
In Sunday's series finale, Frye capped a big weekend with four hits and Lawson Cole delivered three – 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to lead the Bears to a 7-5 win. Frye (4-for-5), tallied two doubles and three RBI, Parker Lester (3-for-5) drove in a pair of runs, Ely Brown (3 BB's, 1 HBP) scored two runs, and Michael Graziano (2-for-4) hit his first career home run to power the Bears offensively. Cole (1-0) was lights-out in relief to pick up the first win of his career, while Jeb Johnson continued his outstanding start to the season by earning the save.
On Monday, Frye earned SoCon Player of the Week honors after posting a .647 batting average and a 1.524 OPS for the week.
