NEW ORLEANS – Last week's unblemished run on the sand in Southern California for Mercer's Liv Diaz and Jordan Paddock was recognized handsomely on Wednesday afternoon when the duo was named the Sun Belt Conference Pair of the Week, the league office announced.
Diaz, a Snellville product, and Paddock, a native of Orland, Ill., reeled off a perfect 4-0 clip as Mercer's No. 3 pair last week as the Bears (10-4) posted a 4-2 swing through California on the way to claiming the best start in program history. The tandem posted straight-sets triumphs in MU wins over Cal State Bakersfield, Vanguard and Southern Miss, and culminated their week by rallying back from an opening-set loss to 8th-ranked Long Beach State's Jaylen Jordan and Natalie Glenn with 21-19 and 15-13 decisions in the second and deciding third sets, respectively.
Wednesday's announcement marked the second Sun Belt Conference weekly award for Diaz who also claimed a share of the laurel last season alongside current teammate Kathryn Corbett.
Mercer will resume its 2025 regular season slate, March 21-22, when it takes on hosting duties for the Bears Beach Bash on campus. The Bears are scheduled for two matchups apiece with Emmanuel (4-2), UNC Wilmington (3-2) and Jacksonville (1-7) across the two-day event at Bear Beach. Admission is free.
