Benson, Hardie Pick Up Sun Belt Conference Pair Of The Week Laurels

NEW ORLEANS – An unimpeded run through the Dolphin Beach sand on Saturday and Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla., proved even more fruitful on Wednesday afternoon when seniors Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie were lauded with Sun Belt Conference Pair of the Week honors, the league office announced.
Designated as the No. 3 pair for the Bears (19-9) for the entirety of the two-day event, Benson and Hardie steamrolled pairs from Eckerd, Jacksonville and Webber on the way to recording a perfect 4-0 record. Three of the tandem's victories came via straight sets, while Saturday's win over the Tritons came on the heels of a 17-15 deciding third set.
Wednesday's announcement marked the second Sun Belt Conference weekly award of the season for the Orange & Black. Liv Diaz and Jordan Paddock collected the accolade earlier this season after registering a perfect record amid MU's Spring Break trip in Southern California.
Mercer, who tacked up its program record 18th win of the season in the 4-1 win over Eckerd on Sunday, will be back in action again this weekend when it returns to northeast Florida for the North Florida Invite. The Bears are slated for a pair of contests against both Jacksonville and 17th-ranked North Florida at the event.
