MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's soccer head coach Tony Economopoulos has announced the addition of two graduate assistants to the staff for the upcoming 2025 season.
Joining the staff is Alex Lopez and former Mercer women's soccer alum, Belle Martinez.Â
"We are thrilled to be adding Alex and Belle to our staff," said coach Economopoulos. "Alex brings tremendous experience as a four-year starter in goal at Tulsa. He knows the work ethic and mentality it takes to battle through the ups and downs of a season. He will bring great insight to not only our goalies, but field players as well."
A native of Madrid, Spain, Lopez played collegiate soccer for four years at the University of Tulsa (2021-24). A four-year letterwinner at Tulsa, Lopez started in 56 of 58 games as a goalie for the Golden Hurricane. He played 5,201 minutes in goal. Lopez had a total of 156 saves for a .687 saves percentage. He allowed 71 goals in 58 games for a 1.23 goals against average.
Lopez ended his career ranked second in Tulsa program history in goalkeeper shutouts (14), third in goalkeeper games played (58), third in minutes played (5,201), fifth in saves (156) and eighth in goals against average (1.23). Lopez graduated from Tulsa in 2025 with a bachelor's degree in business management.
Martinez is from Richmond Hill, Georgia and was a goalie for the Bears from 2020-23. She graduated from Mercer in 2024 with her bachelor's degree in law and public policy.
"Belle will be a great resource and someone our student-athletes can rely on, having played here for four years," said coach Economopoulos. "She will be a great role model and will make a lasting impact on our student-athletes both on and off the field."
