
Cross Country To Compete At The Southern Showcase

MACON, Ga.- The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the Southern Showcase on Friday, Sept. 12 in Huntsville, Ala. The meet is hosted by Jacksonville State and will take place at John Hunt Park.Â
Both squads are coming off of first place finishes at the Julius Johnson Invitational that took place on Aug. 30 at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course in Macon, Ga. The men's team had the top ten finishers while the women's team placed six in the top ten with both teams having the first and second finishers. Freshman Mary Grace Parker won her first collegiate race with a time of 18:25.45 in the women's 5k and Buck Ledford crossed the finish line first for the men's team with a time of 18:48.11 in the men's 6k.Â
The Southern Showcase is a highly competitive meet with over 50 programs competing in both the men's and women's races including Auburn, Miami, Louisville, Alabama, Kennesaw and Georgia Tech. Runners are getting a preview of the DI South Regional Championship course which will also be held at John Hunt Park. The men's 8k is set to take off at 8:30 a.m.(ET) with the women's 5k following shortly after at 8:30 a.m.(ET).
