
Bears Defeat Wolves In Day One Of Mercer Invitational

MACON, Ga. - After a tough week on the road, the Mercer volleyball team opened up play at the Mercer Invitational with a sweep over West Georgia on Thursday night. The Bears totaled 40 kills and 11 service aces to give them the edge over the Wolves.
Sophomore setter Sammi Bergjans put up an impressive performance with a career-high seven service aces, including five in the first set. Bergjans also added 20 assists and five digs. Freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson led the offensive effort for the Bears recording 10 kills and sophomore outside hitter Sophia Henry added nine kills of her own along with seven digs. Sophomore libero Aubri Martin registered 15 digs in the victory.
Mercer will return back to Hawkins Arena tomorrow night for day two of the Mercer Invitational for a 6 p.m. match against the North Dakota Fighting Hawk. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

SET 2 I 25-21 | Mercer once again took an early 8-3 lead over the Wolves after three-point service runs from Aubri Martin and Sarah Frager. The Wolves slowly started to claw their way back at the 21-19 mark but the Bears took advantage of a few West Georgia kills to pull the set out of reach. | |
SET 3 I 25-23 | The first few points of set three were back and forth until Mercer took a 18-12 lead following a kill from Avery Wilks. The Wolves tied the set 23-23 but a kill from Thompson secured Mercer's second win of the season and first inside Hawkins Arena. |
