
Volleyball Downs Tennessee Tech in Alumni Game

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Volleyball defeated the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles for the second consecutive day in Mercer Volleyball's Alumni Game.
Three separate standout performances led the way for the Bears in today's match as Lara Matta paced the team offensively with 16 kills while adding eight digs and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker Bella Pons anchored the front line, totaling a career high seven blocks on the day while adding two kills. Aubri Martin held down the back row, ending the day with 24 digs, six assists, and three service aces.

| SET 1 I 25-21Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â | The Bears took control early in the first set, jumping ahead to a 9-6 lead before the Golden Eagles went on a three-point run to tie the set at nine apiece. The Bears reestablished their advantage, but Tennessee Tech wouldn't go away, tying the set at 17 before Mercer rallied off four points to go up 21-17. The two teams went back-and-forth for a small stretch to end the set, but Mercer claimed the final two points on kills by Brooklyn Palmer and Taylor Timko. | |
| SET 2 I 23-25 | Mercer took control in the early parts of the second set, using a six-point run to go up 6-1. The two teams went toe-to-toe for the next few points before Tennessee Tech used a three-point run to bring the match to within two. Neither team could take the advantage for the next couple of points, but the Golden Eagles eventually rallied off another three straight points to tie the set at 14. Mercer established a 21-19 lead late in the set, but Tennessee Tech took six of the final eight points to win the second set 25-23. | |

They further established their lead later in the set with a three-point run to take a 13-9 lead, and despite the Golden Eagles' best efforts, they could only bring the deficit to within one as the Bears took the third set 25-23. | |
| SET 4 | 25-13 | Once again, the Bears came out firing to take a 4-1 lead over the Golden Eagles and continued to extend it later in the set with a seven-point run to lead 14-5. The Golden Eagles brought the set to within six with a three-point run, but Mercer all but sealed the win late in the set with a five-point run to go up 23-11, ultimately winning the final set 25-13. | |
