MACON – The Mercer Bears (9-1) opened their weekend series with a 5-4 win over the Penn Quakers (0-4) on Friday night at OrthoGeorgia Park.
Decisive Plays:
The Bears opened the scoring in the second inning courtesy of a Devyn McEachron RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Nathan Rowland. Penn cut the deficit in the half by scoring off a balk in the third before tying the game with a Gavin Degnan home run in the fifth. The Quakers jumped into the lead an RBI double and a sacrifice fly the following inning. Dylan LaPointe answered with a two-run single in the home half of the frame to tie the game at four apiece. Braydon Kersey mashed an RBI double into right center field to give Mercer a late lead before taking the mound in the ninth and striking out two to earn his second save of the season.

- Garrett Lambert turned in his longest outing since February 18, 2024. The redshirt freshman hurled five innings of two-run ball, struck out a single-game best nine batters and only allowed two runs off one hit.Â
- Aidan Hayse picked up the first win of his collegiate career after entering the game in the sixth inning and throwing 1.2 shutout innings to stifle Penn's offense. Hayse struck out two batters and only allowed one baserunner.
- Braydon Kersey proved why he is the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week by showing off his tool-set from the mound and the batter's box.
