
Cathy Stevens Named To Assistant AD, SWA Post

MACON – Athletics department officials at Mercer University announced Tuesday morning that Cathy Stevens, a Peach State native who has already logged nearly 20 years of experience in higher education administration, has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Administration & Reporting and Senior Woman Administrator for the Bears.

Stevens will don the Orange & Black after serving the last 17 years in various administrative roles at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, including the last 4-1/2 years as the SWA and Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance & Student Success for the Bobcats.

"Cathy's career reflects a proven commitment to enhancing the scholar-athlete experience, as well as fostering an environment of academic, athletic and personal growth," said Director of Athletics Jim Cole. "She has an exceptional track record of accomplishment and growth in college athletics and is particularly skilled in the numerous emerging trends and areas of focus in our industry. We are thrilled to welcome Cathy and her family to the Mercer community."

In her new role with the Bears, Stevens serve a key leadership role in the administration of Mercer's 18-sport NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. While working closely with the Director of Athletics, she will provide direct oversight of NCAA and conference reporting, supervision of two to four assigned sport programs, coordination of camps and clinics and leadership of academic support services for scholar-athletes.

Stevens will also oversee key NCAA academic reporting categories, including Academic Progress Rate (APR), Graduation Success Rate (GSR), and eligibility, while also coordinating all departmental contracts in collaboration with University legal counsel. She will also collaborate with coaches, staff, faculty and campus partners to ensure the holistic success of scholar-athletes while upholding institutional values and the NCAA Division I philosophy.

Stevens enjoyed an impressive 17-year career in various administrative roles at GCSU beginning with a two-year role as Administrative Assistant to the Associate Provost from 2009-11. She managed budgets, reporting and compliance for institutional community engagement grants that supported the quality enhancement plan initiatives from 2014-2018 as the ENGAGE Office Coordinator. She also managed university contracts, records management and worked with the Title IX Office across two stints (2011-14, 2018-21) in the General Counsel's Office before transitioning to the athletics department in time for the 2021-22 academic year.

As GCSU's Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Student-Athlete Success, Stevens served as a senior member of the department's athletics leadership team and was charged with the oversight of all athletics reporting including, but not limited to, NCAA eligibility, violation investigation and reporting, NCAA and Board of Regents Athletics financial reports, Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA), graduation data and scholarship awards. She also led efforts for eligibility certification, financial aid, scholarships, roster management, rules education, and Progress Toward Degree (PTD) monitoring.

A double Bobcat, she earned her bachelor's degree in political science with a concentration in international affairs from GCSU in 2009, and went on to receive a master's degree in public administration with a concentration in policy in 2012.

Cathy and her husband, Mark, have two children, Nikki and Cameron. When not supporting the Bears, she enjoys activities and hobbies such as running, baking, crotchet and reading.
