MACON – Mercer baseball's Titan Kamaka was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced on Wednesday.
This prestigious award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Kamaka was labeled as one of the top 100 shortstops in the country after a tremendous first month of the season. The senior from Orlando, Florida, was recently deemed the Southern Conference Player of the Week after leading the Bears to a 5-0 stretch last week.
Kamaka currently has the eighth-best batting average and on-base percentage in the nation (.500 and .607, respectively), is 14th in doubles (7) and is currently ranked as the 68th toughest hitter to strike out across Division I baseball. Kamaka leads the SoCon in walks (13), batting average, doubles, hits (20) and on-base percentage.
You can catch Kamaka and the rest of the Bears at OrthoGeorgia Park this weekend as Mercer welcomes Alcorn State for a three-game series. Tickets are available at mercerbears.com/tickets. All games will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
