Whiting Finishes In 7th Place To Lead Mercer At SoCon Championship

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – Tylar Whiting carded the lowest round in the field on Wednesday and finished in seventh place to lead the Mercer women's golf team at the SoCon Championship from Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, South Carolina.

As a team, the Bears finished in fifth place out of nine teams. For the tournament, Mercer was 57-over, 921. Furman won the SoCon Championship by two shots over Chattanooga. The Paladins finished with a final score of 30-over, 894.

Whiting carded a final round of 70(-2) which was tied for the lowest round of the day. She made four birdies in her round, the most of any of her three rounds. Furman's Audrey Ryu won the individual title among the 50-golfer field by seven strokes at 2-under, 214.

Riley Kim earned a top 15 finish as she finished tied for 14th at 12-over, 228. Wednesday's final round was the best round of the tournament for Mercer. The Bears were 16-over, 304 on Wednesday.

As a team Mercer had 24 birdies throughout the three days which was tied for the third most in the field. Riley Kim had the most birdies for Mercer with eight which was tied for the fourth most in the field.
