Carrollton, Ga. – Mercer Volleyball swept the New Orleans Privateers in the UWG Volleyball Classic's opening match on Friday.

The Bears used commanding starts in both their first and second sets to cruise to a 2-0 lead against New Orleans. The Privateers tried to stay alive in the third set, but the Bears rallied early to take the lead and the set, sweeping New Orleans.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-18	The Bears came out swinging, taking a 16-8 lead in the first set before New Orleans went on a four-point run to cut their deficit in half. Mercer didn't let up though, as they reestablished their eight point lead and closed the first set with a 25-18 win.
SET 2 I 25-22	Mercer kept the momentum in the second set, using a seven-point run to take an early 12-6 lead. The Privateers fought back late in the set, going on a four-point rally to make the score 24-22, but a Lara Matta kill sealed the 25-22 set win for the Bears.
SET 3 I 25-21	The Privateers rallied to begin the third set, jumping ahead with an 8-4 lead before the Bears went on a eight-point run to take a 12-8 lead over New Orleans. The Privateers continued to battle, bringing the deficit to within one, but they couldn't regain their lead as the Bears took the sweep with a 25-21 third set win.
