| Â MERCER/GEORGIA TECHÂ SERIES | |||
| Saturday's contest will mark the 19th meeting all-time between the Bears and Yellow Jackets in a series that dates all the way back to both schools' inaugural season of football in 1892. Georgia Tech is 16-1-1 in the series and will ride a 17-game series unbeaten streak into Saturday's matchup. Mercer claimed the initial meeting between the two sides on Nov. 5, 1892 at Central City Park in Macon. It marked the first intercollegiate football game for both schools. The series also shows a 12-12 tie at Brisbine Park in Atlanta in 1896. Georgia Tech's coach, JB Wood, umpired that contest, while Mercer provided a referee as well. | |||
| Â SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS | |||
| Georgia Tech has opened the season with defeats to Colorado (14-13) and now-No. 15/14-ranked Tennessee (45-24). The Yellow Jackets are one of only three Power Four-conference teams that opened the season with back-to-back power conference opponents. Georgia Tech's offense lost 16 players that made at least one start on offense last season. Those players combined to make 113 starts in 2025. Through Week 2 of the college football season, Pro Football Network has two Georgia Tech defensive players ranked as the highest-graded players in the nation at their respective positions - defensive tackle Tawfiq Thomas and safety Tae Harris. | |||
| Â BEARS IN SEPTEMBER | |||
| Mercer is 27-17 (.614) all-time in the month of September since bringing football back to campus in time for the 2013 campaign, including a 26-12 clip against FCS schools in the calendar's ninth month. MU is 13-7 at home in September across the modern era of the program (2013-present). | |||
| Â BEARS SEEKING FIRST FBS WIN OF MODERN ERA | |||
| Mercer is 0-11 against current FBS teams since football returned to campus in time for the 2013 season. That includes an 0-7 clip against SEC teams (Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss). The Bears are 0-2 against the ACC across the span, including a 2016 loss against Georgia Tech and a 2019 setback to North Carolina. Georgia Tech marked the first FBS opponent of the modern era of Mercer's program when the two in-state rivals squared off in 2016. | |||
| Â NEXT WEEK FOR THE BEARS | |||
| Mercer will continue a 3-game road trip on September 19 when it makes the long trek to West Texas to go toe-to-toe with Abilene Christian (0-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Wildcat Stadium and tickets can be purchased by visiting the Abilene Christian ticketing portal. | |||
