Mercer University announced the hiring of Sam Lee as the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services in September of 2015.
Lee’s responsibilities at Mercer involve assisting student-athletes with the class registration process, developing academic plans and goals for student-athletes and monitoring the academic progress of students. In addition, Lee also plans, implements, and coordinates study hall hours for all Mercer student-athletes and monitor academic eligibility per NCAA and institutional rules.
Prior to arriving at Mercer, Lee served as the Director of Athletic Enrollment & Retention at Union College in Barbourville, Ky., from January 2014 through September 2015. At Union Lee oversaw the admissions process for all prospective student-athletes, monitored the academic progress and oversaw retention strategies of 476 student-athletes.
During the two years under his leadership, Union increased its student-athlete retention percentage by 9% and assisted seven of its athletic programs to maintain above a 3.0 cumulative team GPA.
Prior to his role as the Director of Athletic Enrollment & Retention, Lee filled a number of other positions at Union. Lee served as the Athletics Admissions Counselor from January 2012 through January 2014 and was the Upward Bound Advisor from July 2010 through January 2012.
A 2009 graduate from Union with a degree in sports management, Lee was a four-year member of the Bulldog golf team, serving two years as team captain. A three-time All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Team member, Lee was a medalist at the AAC Tournament in 2009. In addition to being on the golf team, Lee served as a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
In 2009-10, Lee served as graduate assistant for the men's and women's golf teams. Lee received his masters in secondary education from Union in December of 2011.
