Jeff Ward was named Mercer's Director of Strength & Conditioning in the spring of 2019.
Ward previously held the title of Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at Georgia Southern. In his time with the Eagles, he oversaw the strength and conditioning programs for 15 Olympic sports, including direct oversight of the baseball, men’s basketball and women’s soccer teams. Prior to his time as a director, Ward was the assistant strength coach for Georgia Southern’s football program and helped with the rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.
 
“We’re excited about Jeff joining the Mercer Family and bringing his high level of expertise and energy with him to Macon,” Director of Athletics Jim Cole said at the time of Ward's hire. “We look forward to his positive impact on the development and welfare of our student-athletes.”
 
Ward got his start in the profession as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, along with earning valuable experience with a 16-week internship at Tulane University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
 
The Suwanee, Ga., native walked-on to the Georgia Southern football team as a tight end in 2011 and earned a full scholarship by his redshirt junior year in 2014. He served as the team captain for the Eagles’ 2015 campaign that concluded with the program’s first ever bowl appearance at the GoDaddy Bowl. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science from Georgia Southern in 2016 and later earned a master’s in kinesiology from Georgia Southern in 2017.
 
He is married to the former Alexis Sams, who played basketball at Georgia Southern.
