Cosper Inks Free Agent Deal With New York Mets

MACON – The Mercer baseball program's pipeline to professional baseball continued to flow freely on Friday afternoon when former southpaw Colton Cosper inked his name to a free agent contract with the New York Mets.

Cosper, a Carrollton, Ga., native, becomes the third student-athlete from MU's 2024-25 roster to ink a deal with a Major League Baseball organization, joining outfielder Chicago White Sox draftee Ely Brown and fellow free agent signee Bradley Frye (San Diego Padres).

A 2-time All-Southern Conference selection, as well as a 2-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree, Cosper recorded a 20-10 record and a 4.83 earned run average in 69 appearances (43 starts) for the Orange & Black across the last four seasons, including 14 victories and a 3.97 ERA over the last two years (33 appearances).

Cosper earned first team all-SoCon laurels to cap the 2025 campaign after he turned in a 7-2 record and a 3.57 ERA in 88-1/3 innings of work. He also struck out a career-best 80 batters and held opponents to a paltry .262 batting clip.
