An eight-year coaching veteran with previous stops at three other collegiate institutions, Antreal Allen begins his first season at Mercer in 2026-27, as well as his second year alongside head coach Joel Taylor, as the cornerbacks coach for the Bears. Allen spent the 2025 season in the same role at West Georgia.
Allen played an key role in crafting a formidable West Georgia defense in 2025 as the Wolves boasted what would have been (UWG was amid transition to NCAA Division I; not eligible for statistics ranking) the nation’s 21st-ranked total defense (332.2 yards/game allowed), while also limiting foes to just 21.2 points per game (T-21st NCAA). UWG picked off 10 passes across the campaign, and opponents mustered just 209.3 yards an outing through the air.
Prior to trekking to Carrollton, Ga., Allen coached three seasons (2022-24) at his alma mater and played his part in constructing a defensive unit that surrendered just 239.9 passing yards per game across that span, while also tallying 33 interceptions. Georgia State forced 25 turnovers in 2022 (11th NCAA), including 13 interceptions, and yielded just 203.3 passing yards per game in his last season as the cornerbacks coach for the Panthers. Three of his mentees were decorated with All-Sun Belt Conference across his full-time stay in Atlanta.
Allen transitioned into the coaching world as a quality control assistant at Georgia State in 2018, before diving into a role as a graduate assistant coach for the Panthers prior to the 2019 campaign. The Auburn, Ala., product obtained his first full-time coaching gig as the defensive backs and special teams coach at Shorter. The Hawks yielded a paltry 190.8 passing yards per game amid a pandemic-shortened 2020 season, and boasted one of the Gulf South Conference’s (NCAA Division II) punt return defense units in 2021.
Allen played in 40 games across four seasons at Georgia State, including a senior campaign that watched him become an everyday starter for the Panthers. He starred in the secondary as both a cornerback (2014-15) and a safety (2016-17), logging 75 tackles, three interceptions and a trio of pass break-ups. He was a part of the program’s first-ever bowl appearance at the 2015 Cure Bowl and was a part of the starting lineup in GSU’s first bowl victory in 2017 – a 27-17 triumph over Western Kentucky in the Cure Bowl.
Allen earned his bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Georgia State in 2018. 247Sports.com named him to their annual “30 Under 30” listing in 2024 and recognized his “rapid ascent in the world of college football, while also underscoring his significant impact on the game at just 30 years old.”
