A seven-year coaching veteran with previous stops at four other collegiate institutions, Austin Davis begins his first year at Mercer in 2026-27, as well as his third alongside head coach Joel Taylor, as the offensive coordinator for the Bears. Davis joined the coaching staff in Macon in December 2025 after spending the previous two seasons at West Georgia.
West Georgia thrived with Davis as offensive coordinator in 2025, averaging better than 355 yards and 25.5 points per game on the way to doubling its win total from the 2024 campaign. UWG amassed 350 or more yards seven times across the 11-game slate, including 457 yards of offense in a 35-31 comeback victory over visiting East Tennessee State.
Davis initially made the move to Carrollton, Ga., in time for the 2024 campaign – UWG’s first season amid its transition from NCAA Division II – as the offensive line coach for the Wolves. The offensive front yielded just 17 sacks across 11 games (1.54/game) that season, and paved the way for a rushing attack that chewed up nearly 150 yards per game, including a 324-yard attack against Lincoln (Calif.).
Prior to trekking to West Georgia, Davis was a part of two ACC coaching staffs, including a 3-year stay (2019-21) at his alma mater under head coach David Cutcliffe. He guided Duke’s offensive line to unparalleled growth in his first season on the sidelines in Durham, N.C., as the Blue Devils ranked 25th, nationally, and second among the 14 ACC schools in tackles for loss allowed (4.92/game). The Blue Devils were also named to the Midseason Honor Roll for the Joe Moore Award which is presented annually to nation’s top offensive line.
Davis spent the 2022 season as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at nearby NC State, and served as the interim offensive line coach for Duke’s clash with Maryland in the 2022 Mayo Bowl. He attained his first full-time role as the offensive line coach at Northern Arizona in 2023 where he helped construct one of FCS’s top offensive attacks.
A two-year starter at center for the Blue Devils, Davis earned a third team All-ACC citation in 2017 and was a member of the ESPN ACC All-Bowl Team following Duke's victory over Northern Illinois in the Quick Lane Bowl. The Mansfield, Texas, product played in 38 games, including 25 consecutive starts to close his career, and logged 1,987 career snaps. Davis helped Duke to 28 wins across four seasons (2014-17), including three bowl game appearances (2014 Hyundai Sun, 2015 New Era Pinstripe Bowl and 2017 Quick Lane Bowl) and a pair of bowl victories. He was the program's Dan “Tiger” Hill Award recipient as the most outstanding offensive lineman following each of his final two seasons.
Davis inked an undrafted free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers following his illustrious collegiate career, and later played center and guard for the Salt Lake Stallions as part of the Alliance of American Football league.
A two-time Academic All-ACC selection, Davis earned both a bachelor’s (2016) and master’s degree (2017) from Duke, and completed a master’s degree in sports entertainment & venue management at NC State in 2022. He is married to the former Amanda Barletta.
He was recently named (December 2025) to the American Football Coaches Association’s “35 Under 35” program which recognizes and develops young leaders in the football coaching profession.
