Brandon Wright joined Mercer in 2020 as an offensive analyst. In his first season, the Bears averaged 336 yards of total offense and scored 36 touchdowns. Mercer averaged 167.1 rushing yards per game, the third-highest mark in the Southern Conference. Freshman quarterback Carter Peevy, who took the reins prior to the spring portion of the COVID-19 altered season, made a difference in the passing game. Peevy finished his first collegiate season ranked second in the conference in passing yards (1,318) while being third in completion percentage (54.3 pct), passing efficiency (133.0) and passing touchdowns (8). The Bears averaged 165.4 yards through the air in 2020-21.
Wright is a native of Sumter, S.C., and graduated from Newberry College in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Wright then went on to complete his master’s degree at Strayer University.  Wright played Inside Linebacker for four seasons at Newberry College under head coach Zak Willis. He began his coaching career at Ridge View High School, in Columbia, S.C. in 2007 coaching linebackers and running backs. From there he went to Franklin College (Ind.) to coach Defensive Backs. Following his stop at Franklin College, Wright went to Stetson University from 2012 through 2015 coaching linebackers and defensive line. After his stint at Stetson, Wright went to work for the National Gridiron League in Sunshine Coast, Australia coaching the North Coast Heat. In 2017, Wright coached the defensive line at Becker College in Leicester, Mass. Prior to his stop at Mercer, from 2018-19, he was the Defensive Coordinator at Middle Georgia State in Cochran, Ga. Â
