Joseph Eaglin is originally from Baton Rouge, La., and graduated from the Southeastern Louisiana University in 2019 with a degree in sport management. During his time at Southeastern Louisiana, Eaglin served as a student manager with the football program. He joined the Mercer football staff in 2020 and enters his second season in 2021. He works as a quality control coach and with the safeties.
Under Eaglin's guidance in 2020-21 safety Lance Wise was an All-Southern Conference selection and HERO Sports All-American. Wise, a ball hawking safety finished second on the squad  with 86 tackles (43 solo, 43 assisted). He had three games with at least 10 stops and made a career-high 20 tackles against Abilene Christian, finishing one shy of the program record set by Sidney Otiwu on Nov. 2, 2019. He made four tackles for a loss for a total of 10 yards. The Marietta, Ga., native broke up eight passes and had one interception for a SoCon-best nine passes defended.
