JustinBrown, a native of Warner Robins, Ga., begins his first season asthe defensive line coach at Mercer University in 2013.
He brings awealth of talent to Mercer after most recently coaching atPresbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. During the 2011 season,Brown held the position of defensive tackles coach with the BlueHose, helping elevate the team to a program-best third place finishin the Big South Conference in his only year with the team.
The landmarkseason also saw the Blue Hose finish the year with back-to-backwins, marking the first time since 2008 the team accomplished thatfeat.
Beforeworking at Presbyterian, Brown was an assistant coach at HillcrestHigh School, where he coached the defensive line and served as thejunior varsity defensive coordinator. While coaching at Hillcrest,he also spent time as an Assistant Sports Director at the YMCA ofGreenville. He was a four-year starter at nose guard for Furmanunder Bobby Lamb and served as team captain in his seniorcampaign.
Brown playedcollegiately under head coach Bobby Lamb at Furman (2006-2009) andwas recruited out of Warner Robins High School. In 2007, Brownearned Sports Network All-American Honorable Mention honors and wasa College Sporting News Preseason All-American. He was the 2006Furman Freshman of the Year and tallied All-Southern Conferenceselections in 2006 and 2007.
Browngraduated from Furman in 2009 with a bachelor’s of arts inreligion and communication studies.
