A six-year coaching veteran with previous stops at three other collegiate institutions, Tyler Orlosky begins his first year at Mercer in 2024-25, as well as his second season alongside head coach Mike Jacobs, as the offensive line coach for the Bears. Orlosky joined the coaching staff in Macon in January 2024 after spending the previous season in a similar role at Lenoir-Rhyne.
Lenoir-Rhyne’s offensive front flourished under Orlosky’s leadership during the 2023 campaign as the Bears boasted NCAA Division II’s 21st-best rushing offense at 202.3 yards per game, while also ranking among the nation’s best pass protection squads while allowing just 1.33 sacks an outing. L-R ran for 200 or more yards in eight outings, including a trio of 300+-yard performances and accounted for 33 rushing touchdowns as well. The dominance showed by the unit paid dividends at season’s end as three student-athletes picked up All-South Atlantic Conference accolades, including Shane Wells who also earned a spot on the all-region squad.
Â
Prior to making the move to Hickory, N.C., Orlosky served two seasons (2021-22) as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Ohio Dominican where he helped lead the Panthers to a pair of seven-win campaigns, as well as 10 victories inside the always-tough Great Midwest Athletic Conference. ODU averaged nearly 375 yards per game across Orlosky’s tenure in Columbus, Ohio, while 10 student-athletes were crowned with all-conference accolades, including offensive lineman Ty Keirns who went on to pick up all-region and all-America nods following the 2022 campaign.
Â
Orlosky was a dominant center while seeing time in 50 games for West Virginia from 2014-16. He raked in all-America honors from nine different organizations as a senior and was also a finalist for the Rimington Trophy which is awarded to the nation’s top interior offensive lineman. The Mountaineers amassed 25 victories during his time in Morgantown, W.Va., and made three bowl appearances, including a win over Arizona State in the 2015 Cactus Bowl.
Â
Following his storied playing career, the Cleveland, Ohio, native spent three seasons(2018-20) on the sidelines at WVU as a graduate assistant offensive line coach under head coaches Dana Holgorsen and Neal Brown. West Virginia made appearances in two more bowl games with Orlosky on the coaching staff, including a 24-21 comeback victory over Liberty in the 2020 Liberty Bowl.
Â
Orlosky earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise psychology from West Virgnia in 2016. He also earned a master’s degree in corporate communication and sports management from the distinguished institution in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
