Will Patterson enters his sixth season as tight ends coach at Mercer University. Patterson has served on Mercer's staff since the Bears' return to the gridiron in 2013.

- Saw Sam Walker emerge as Mercer's top tight end target during junior campaign
- Walker ranked third on team in receptions (27) & touchdowns (2) &Â fourth in receiving yards (262)
- Walker caught 10 passes for 66 yards at FBS-level opponents Auburn & Alabama
- Helped guide Chris Ellington to first full season of action (five receptions, 65 yards, one touchdown)
- 2016
- Further mentored a unit led by senior Robert Brown & sophomore Sam Walker
- Brown & Walker combined for 33 receptions, 328 yards & four touchdowns
- 2015
- Played integral role in turning tight end position into a focal point of Mercer's offense
- Top tight ends Sam Walker & Robert Brown finished second & third, respectively, in both receiving yards & touchdown receptions
- Walker (25 catches, 323 yards, two touchdowns) & Brown (17 catches, 303 yards, three touchdowns) both earned SoCon postseason accolades
- Tight ends unit hauled in combined six touchdown receptions
- 2014
- Continued to oversee the emergence of Robert Brown, who developed into one of SoCon's top tight ends as a sophomore (13 catches, 246 yards, two touchdowns)

- Guided a tight ends unit that played key role in Mercer averaging 38.25 points per game & 449.6 yards of total offense per game
- Three tight ends caught combined 24 passes for 341 yards & five touchdowns
- Freshman Robert Brown earned All-PFLÂ Second Team honors &Â ranked second on team in receiving touchdowns (5), third in receptions (21) & fourth in receiving yards (308)
