Jon Mangel enters his sixth season as the strength and conditioning coach at Mercer University.
Mangel, who oversees the strength and conditioning program for Mercer Athletics, works primarily with the football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs. He also played an instrumental role in the design of the Homer and Ruth Drake Fieldhouse weight room.
Prior to Mercer, Mangel worked at Southern Conference member Wofford College for two years. He started at Wofford as a strength and conditioning intern, but was eventually promoted to a full-time assistant.
While at Wofford, Mangel was the primary contact for the baseball, men’s soccer, women’s golf, men’s tennis and cross country programs, while also assisting with men’s and women’s basketball teams, volleyball team and the 2010 SoCon Champion football program.
Before arriving at Wofford, Mangel worked as both an intern and assistant coach at the Athletic Evolution Nike SPARQ Training Center in Woburn, Mass., from 2008-2010.
A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and USA-W Sports Performance Coach, Mangel graduated from Florida State University in 2007 with a bachelor’s of science in exercise science.
A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mangel earned a Master’s of Science in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University.
Mangel resides in Macon with his wife Kelley and their newborn daughter, Riley.
