Ian Cameron joined the Mercer men’s soccer team as an assistant coach on July 23, 2013. For the past three seasons, he has worked with the offense, helping the Bears to compile a 30-27-4 record.
In 2015, Mercer recorded its second straight season with double digit wins, advancing to the SoCon Tournament Semifinals for the second straight year. Mercer’s offense finished third in the SoCon and 37th nationally in points per game (5.00), while ranking second in the conference in total points (100) and 32nd nationally.
In 2014, Mercer tallied a 14-7 mark en route to winning the school’s first ever Southern Conference championship. The Bears set a program record with 14 wins and also played in the SoCon Tournament Championship game.
Cameron coached the 2014 SoCon Freshman of the Year, Will Bagrou, and assisted an offense that ranked second in the league in multiple categories, including scoring offense (1.62), total goals (34), total assists (22) and total points (101). Bagrou also led the conference in goals (12) and points (29).
The 2013 edition of the Mercer Bears qualified for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship for the sixth straight year.
Cameron has seen time both on the field and on the sidelines while in the Orange and Black. He played for the Bears from 2007-2010, appeared in 67 games with the Orange and Black and still ranks in the top-10 in program history in points (T-8th – 50), goals (T-9th – 17) and assists (T-5th – 16).
The crafty midfielder also racked up plenty of awards while playing at Mercer, earning a National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region third team selection, an Atlantic Sun All-Conference first team selection and an A-Sun Championship All-Tournament Team nomination.
A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Cameron graduated from Mercer in 2011 with a double major degree in Finance/Economics and earned a master’s degree in quantitative finance from the University of Glasgow in 2012.
