A 15-year veteran in collegiate athletics administration, Daniel Tate begins his 15th full season in the Mercer athletics department in 2025-26 as the Deputy Athletics Director of External Operations for the Bears. He was promoted to his current role in July 2023, but has overseen the External Operations Department – which includes marketing & promotions, athletic communications, ticket sales and event management – since his initial hire as Associate Athletics Director in 2011.
Â
A native of Greenville, S.C., Tate joined the Mercer athletics department in February 2011 and saw immediate success in his vital administrative role at MU. He was an integral part of the University-wide task force that eventually brought football back to campus after a 72-year hiatus, and also established, maintained and cultivated working relationships with internal and external constituencies that increased sponsorship revenue for the department by more than 800 percent in his first seven years at the helm.
Â
He has also been at the forefront of a multitude of initiatives that increased the exposure of Mercer Athletics including the development of program-specific, departmental and ticket-based advertising campaigns, as well as the negotiation of department-wide shoe and apparel contracts with both adidas and Under Armour. He is also responsible for the creation of The Ford Concert Series which brings national recording artists to Five Star Stadium prior to each home football game.
Â
Tate trekked to Macon after two seasons as the director of football operations at Furman where he was accountable for the day-to-day operations of the football program including staff oversight, budget control and fundraising. He built his base of marketing knowledge in the year previous at Ubiquitous Media in New York City where he produced advertising and marketing elements for client-sponsored programs. While working with the National Basketball Association as an Events and Attractions Associate, he planned and executed domestic and international events for all NBA properties, including Europe Live, WNBA All-Star, FIBA Tournament, and the NBA All-Star Game.
Â
An active member of his church and community, Tate is a graduate of Leadership Macon (Class of 2012), and currently serves on the board of directors for the Macon-hosted Cherry Blossom festival. He attends Southside Baptist Church and, in 2020, established 478 Sings – a virtual fundraising campaign that resulted in more than $84,000 of contributions to the United Way of Central Georgia.
Â
Tate earned his bachelor’s degree from Clemson in 2006 and completed his graduate work in Higher Education Leadership from Mercer in 2014. He and his wife, Brittany, have five children – Madison, Ella Grace, Landry, Harrison and William.
