GAME ONE - Mercer vs. Tennessee Tech - W, 1-0 Box Score
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears are headed to Woodstock, Ga. today for opening round play in the “Buzz Classic” softball tournament hosted by Georgia Tech.
The tournament consists of 21 teams from all across the country and will pit Mercer against some stiff competition throughout the three-day weekend event. Coming off a double-header sweep of Alabama State on Wednesday the Bears (11-6, 0-0 A-Sun) will play five games in the tournament, and first on the schedule is a team the Bears have already faced this season in Tennessee Tech.
The Golden Eagles and Mercer played two weekends ago at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial at this same Twin Creeks Softball Complex. The Bears won that game 9-1 on the power of junior Emi Sherrill who had two home runs against Tech pitchers.
Game two of Friday's double-header will pit the Bears against Southeastern Conference foe, Ole Miss at 6 p.m. The Bears are 0-1 all-time against the Mississippi and it will be a tough match-up for the Bears in the tournament's first day. Ole Miss is returning 15 letter winners from a season ago that went 23-29 last season.
On Saturday Mercer turns its attention to Rhode Island for an 11 a.m. match-up with a currently winless Rams team. To finish out the weekend, the Bears will take on James Madison and Seton Hall bright and early at 9 and 11 a.m. respectively
All of the weekend action can be caught live at Twin Creeks Softball Complex in Woodstock, Ga.
