CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Heavy rain that slowly made its way across southeast Tennessee late Tuesday evening and into Wednesday has washed out Day 1 action at the Southern Conference Softball Tournament, league officials announced.
Â
The four-day event, originally scheduled to culminate with a championship game on Saturday, will now be shifted to a Thursday-Sunday format. Seventh-seeded Mercer (20-29) is now scheduled to take on sixth-seeded East Tennessee State (21-28) in a tournament play-in game on Thursday at UTC's Frost Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Â
The winner of that contest will advance to the double elimination portion of the tournament and will face third-seeded Western Carolina at 7 p.m.
