MACON, Ga. – With summer just around the corner, the Mercer women's softball program has announced their 2010 camps schedule, highlighting a summer filled with opportunities for players of all ages.
The camps are designed and taught by members of the Bears Division I softball staff including assistant coach Kelley Bretscher and current players. The focus of the camps is to teach softball fundamentals while implementing personal instruction toadvance the players overall softball I.Q.
“The camps provide girls with a great opportunity to work with Division I athletes and coaches as well as get a feel for the type of training we do at Mercer on a daily basis,” Bretscher said.
Campers will work on skills in numerous different areas including: throwing, fielding, hitting, pitching, catching, base running and offensive/defensive strategies.
The Bears “Cubs Camp” will have two dates beginning on Monday, May 31 and run until Wednesday, June 2 and is aimed at players aged 5 to 13. The second session will run from Monday, June 7 to Wednesday, June 9.
“The Cub's Camps are exciting ways to share the joy of softball to the younger girls and really hone in on perfecting the fundamentals of the game while keeping the focus on fun,” Bretscher said.
For the more competitive players, two camps(Big Bears and Build-a-Bear) will help train and prepare players both mentally and physically in a collegiate atmosphere.
“The advanced camps are designed to more specifically tailor to the needs of individual players in hopes of preparing them for the college recruiting process,” Bretscher said.
The Big Bears camp will run Thursday and Friday, June 3 and 4 and again the following week June 10 and 11. The Build-a-bear camp is a two-day workout starting Monday, June 28 and finishing up on Wednesday, June 30.
