Head Coach Mike Raynor and Mercer softball program announced on Wednesday the signing of Kristen Bretscher to a National Letter of Intent to attend Mercer in the fall of 2010.
“Kristen will bring a continued 'west coast' approach to our program,” Raynor said. “Kristen is an infielder/pitcher who throws righty and hits lefty with power.”
Bretscher, from Ontario Christian High School in Ontario, CA, was her high school team MVP and a California Interscholastic Federation All Southern Section player. Recently, she has been chosen to play in the seventh annual Inland Valley High School All-Star softball game at Big League Dreams in Mira Loma, Calif. on June 7, 2010.
The all-star game will feature UCLA-bound Ayala High School pitcher Jessica Hall on the South team and reigning Daily Bulletin Player of the Year Natalee Pulver, who pitched Etiwanda High School to a CIF championship in 2009, on the North.
“She is a member of the The Case Batbusters Gold organization, and brings instant credibility and significant potential to our already talented group,” Raynor said.
During her time playing for the Case Batbusters 18-GOLD team, Bretscher played under the legendary manager Bob Wenk. Wenk has coached four Olympians in his career and has over 1,500 career victories and six ASA National Championships.
Bretscher joins a list of six other student-athletes signed to begin play for the Bears in the fall of 2010.
