MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team will give new head coach James DeFeo a close look at what he has to work with next spring as the team recently announced their 2011 fall schedule, which begins play this Saturday.
The fall schedule includes four dates with a bevy of action with teams all across the state of Georgia. This Saturday Mercer welcomes in two teams - Middle Georgia and Waycross College to Sikes Field for a full day of games. The Bears face both teams playing at 1 p.m. against Waycross and Middle Georgia at 3 p.m.
DeFeo was hired just last week, coming to Mercer after serving as associate head coach at LSU for the past seven years, and this weekend will be his first chance to see his new team in action. The Bears lose six seniors this year to graduation, but return a wealth of experience at a number of positions from a team that went 32-24 including winning two games in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament last spring.
