Men's Golf Slips to 15th at John Hayt Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.—The Mercer men's golf team finished second round action in 15th position at the Johnny Hayt Collegiate Invitational, having dropped a place in the team standings heading into Tuesday's final round at the Sawgrass Country Club Golf Course. Monday's second-round total of 308 positions the team five strokes behind Furman for 14th place.
Through the first two rounds, the Bears have used 617 strokes. Central Florida leads the 15-team field at 588 while North Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee are in a three-way tie for second place at 591.
Senior Josh Cone had Mercer's best round on Monday, firing a 76. Cone registered three birdies and eight pars and is tied for 68th overall with a 36-hole total of 157.
Individually, sophomore James Beale is Mercer's top individual after carding 74 and 77 in the opening two rounds. Entering the final day, Beale is tied for 34th of 87 participants. Freshman Trey Rule had his second-straight 77 at the event and is tied for 54th overall.
Freshman Hans Reimers followed Sunday's 77 with a 78 and is slotted in a six-way tie for 59th overall. John Gregory Joseph needed 86 strokes to navigate Monday's 18 holes and is tied for 84th individually.
The final round of the John Hayt Intercollegiate is set to tee off on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
