Kassie Bailey Wins College Sports Madness Atlantic Sun Softball Player of the Week
MACON, Ga.—Senior Kassie Bailey was named College Sports Madness Atlantic Sun Softball Player of the Week it was announced Monday.
The Evans, Ga. product helped the Bears to a 3-1 record over the weekend by batting .385 and posting six RBI to lead the Mercer offense.
Bailey also helped the Bears' cause in the circle, as she posted a 1-1 record in 10.1 innings pitched, including picking up her seventh win in Saturday's 3-2 win over East Tennessee State in the second game of the twinbill.
In the opening series of the weekend against USC Upstate, Bailey put forth her best individual performance of the weekend in the Bears' lone loss.Bailey led the Bears by driving in four of the seven Mercer runs on Friday's 8-7 setback to the Spartans at Cyrill Stadium.
Highlighting Bailey's game one performance was a two-run home run in the top of the third inning off of Upstate's Hannah Alexander. She plated her other two RBI, with a single in the first inning and a fielder's choice in the seventh.
In the second game against the Spartans, Bailey had an RBI double in the third which brough in Randi Rea and allowed the Bears to take a 1-0 lead in a game Mercer would eventually go on to win, 4-1.
Bailey would record her sixth RBI of the weekend in the 3-2, game two sweep of East Tennessee State, as she brought in the fleet-footed McKenzie Woody in on an RBI double in the first.
With her six Mercer runs responsible for this past weekend, Bailey now leads the Bears with 26 RBI on the campaign. She also finished the weekend ranking second on the team in batting average (.333) trailing only Woody, who currently leads the A-Sun with a .450 average.
Bailey's two-run homer in game one against USC Upstate was her third of the campaign, tying her for third on the team with classmate Tiffany Phillips.
The College Sports Madness Player of the Week citation is the first weekly honor Bailey has claimed during her career as a Bear.
Bailey and the Bears return to Sikes Field on Friday, hosting defending A-Sun champion Jacksonville in a Friday twinbill, North Florida will take on the Bears in a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for Friday's game is set for 4 p.m.
