MACON, Ga. – Mercer sophomore McKenzie Woody picked up another accolade on Thursday, adding to her laundry list of achievements this season as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its 2012 NFCA Division I All-Region teams.
Woody was named to the NFCA South Region Second Team thanks to her record-setting sophomore season. This latest achievement comes on the heels of Woody being named First Team All-Atlantic Sun last week. She was one of five A-Sun players named to the second team in the south region.
"Once again, Woody's accolades keep rolling in and she deserves all the recognition she's getting," head coach James DeFeo said. "McKenzie is setting a new standard for excellence for this program, and it will be exciting to watch her lead this team to new heights the next couple of years."
Woody accumulated 74 hits and a .430 batting average – both were Mercer single season program records from her leadoff position in the Bears' lineup. This year, the speedy outfielder accounted for nearly 20 percent of the team's run production, scoring 44 runs and driving in 13 RBI.
