Woody Tabbed First Team All-Conference

MACON, Ga. – Mercer sophomore centerfielder McKenzie Woody wrapped up Atlantic Sun First-Team All-Conference honors on Tuesday after a banner year which saw the Fayatteville, Ga. native set two program single-season records.
Woody, who is the Bears' leadoff batter, started all 52 games accumulating 74 hits and a .430 batting average – both were single season program records. This year, the speedy outfielder accounted for nearly 20 percent of the team's run production, scoring 44 runs and driving in 13 RBI.
"We are very proud of McKenzie and all the hard work and dedication that she put in both on and off the field," head coach James DeFeo said. "She's a true representative of Mercer Bears softball."
Woody picks up First Team All-Conference honors after being a unanimous selection to the All-Freshmen Team a year ago. She is the first, first team selection since former players Jenni Holtz and Holly Oglesbee were chosen in 2009.
For the second year in a row, the sophomore finished the year leading the team in hits (74), runs scored (44), batting average (.430). Woody also paced the A-Sun conference in batting average and hits. Her .430 average was also good enough for 26th in the nation.
"Woody truly understands the meaning of hard work and determination," DeFeo said. "She brings 110 percent day in and day out."
So far in her two years in Macon, Woody has posted an astonishing .380 batting average and 136 total hits. If she keeps that pace she will finish her career with a 272 hits, easily eclipsing the Bears' program as the all-time record of 220 set by Jamie Madruga.
