Men's Golf Ties for Fifth at Ram Masters Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A strong showing in Tuesday's final round of the Ram Masters Invitational helped the Mercer men's golf team finish in a tie for fifth at the conclusion of play at Fort Collins Country Club. Mercer senior John Gregory Joseph took home the Bears' best finish at the event, tying for ninth place individually.
Mercer shot a combined team score of 290 in the final round for a final tournament tally of 873, good enough to pull even with Weber State for fifth in the 15-team field. Wichita State captured the tournament title, using 859 strokes over the duration of the 54-hole event to edge host Colorado State by one stroke.
Joseph booked a final round 73 (+3) on Tuesday to capture his second collegiate top-10 finish. His 73 on Tuesday mirrored his first round total and was four strokes off the pace of his red-hot second round effort.
Junior James Beale had the best final round of all the Bears, firing a 71 (+1) to finish the tournament in a tie for 20th with teammate Jeffrey Heinicka, Jr. Heinicka, Jr. carded a 72 on Tuesday, following on the heels of a 71 and 75 in the opening two rounds.
Junior Hans Reimers signed for a 74 in the final round, while freshman Oliver Vaidis wrapped up his tournament with a 77. Reimers tied for 36th place with a score of 223 while Vaidis' tournament total of 230 slotted him in a tie for 67th.
As an individual, senior Alex Street placed 78th overall after closing the event with an 81. Street's 81 came in conjunction with scores of a 77 and a 79 in Monday's opening 36 holes.
Mercer is back in action on Friday, October 5, when it serves as the host school for the sixth annual Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship. Play begins at 8 a.m. at the Brickyard at Riverside.
