Women's Golf Third in Buies Creek

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Mercer women's golf team is in third place at Campbell's Fighting Camel Classic after posting team scores of 313 and 294 in Monday's opening two rounds at Keith Hill Golf Club. The Bears were paced by freshman Haley Austin, who booked totals of 5-over-par 77 and 2-over-par 74 close the day tied for 11th individually.
Mercer (607) is 12 strokes behind Old Dominion for second place, while host Campbell leads the event at 592. Mercer's second round 294 was the second lowest round total of the day, only topped by Campbell's second round 290.
Austin notched four birdies on the day and will begin Tuesday's final round five strokes off the pace of Old Dominion's Kimberley Bradbury for the tournament lead. Seniors Mary Alice Murphy and Lacey Fears are both tied for 14th place with 36-hole scores of 152. Fears rebounded from an opening round 82 with a 2-under 70 in the second round. Murphy signed for scores of 79 and 73.
Freshman Katy Harris is tied for 28th place after shooting 78 and 77 on Monday. Junior Sarah Louie Brown rounded out the team's competitors with rounds of 79 and 80 and will start the final round tied for 47th.
