TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer junior Hans Reimers shot a 68 (-4) on the second day of the Seminole Intercollegiate to spearhead the Bears' move into sixth place on the tournament leaderboard. Individually, Reimers' 68 moved the Albany, Oregon native into a tie for fifth place.
"The guys played really well today so I'm very proud and happy for them," Mercer head coach Steve Bradley said. "We tied for low round of the day, which is a significant improvement. We'll have a chance to squeeze into the top five with another solid round tomorrow."
Mercer's team score of 283 on Saturday was eight strokes better than the squad's Friday total. Entering Sunday's final round, Mercer (574) is four strokes ahead of North Carolina and just three strokes behind South Florida. Host Florida State (561) retained its lead on the field and sits just one stroke in front of Mississippi State.
Reimers' 68 came on the heels of an opening round 71 placed him in a five-way tie for fifth. On Sunday, he'll begin play just three strokes behind Florida State's Daniel Berger for the tournament lead.
Sophomore Trey Rule carded a 73 and is tied for 25th place at 144. Freshman Jeffrey Heinicka signed for a collegiate-best 70 and moved into a tie for 35th place at 145. Junior James Beale shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 33rd while senior John Gregory Joseph posted his second-straight 75 and is tied for 45th.
The final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate is scheduled for an 8:20 a.m. start on Sunday.
