TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer junior Hans Reimers fired an even-par 72 to notch his second-straight top 10 finish while helping the Mercer men's golf team wrap up the Seminole Intercollegiate in sixth place at Southwood Golf Course on Sunday.
Mercer's team total of 291 on Sunday paired with scores of 291 and 283 to position the team three strokes behind Ohio State and two strokes ahead of North Carolina. Host Florida State (839) won the event while Mississippi State (846), Coastal Carolina (852) and South Florida (861) joined the Seminoles in the top four.
"Honestly, today was not as good as what we were hoping for," Mercer head coach Steve Bradley said. "The course played a little more difficult and we had an opportunity to move into fourth, but a couple mental errors and poor golf shots prevented that from happening."
Reimers' 72 came in conjunction with scores of 71 and 68 on Friday and Saturday and positioned him ninth on the individual leaderboard. His three-day total of 211 marked Reimers' fifth career top 10 finish and came on the heels of his tie for second place at the USF Invitational last week.
Junior James Beale carded Mercer's low round on Sunday, shooting 70 to move up to a tie for 17th place. Beale's tournament total of 216 was three strokes ahead of freshman Jeffrey Heinicka, who finished 32nd individually after shooting 74 in the final round.
Sophomore Trey Rule capped his showing with a 77 on Sunday and tied for 34th at 221. Senior John Gregory Joseph shot 75 for the third-straight day and tied for 44th.
"Hans' second consecutive top 10 is a good sign and James shooting 70 today shows that he's moving in the right direction," Bradley said. "We've got a big tournament next week with the Linger Longer and we'll have a lot riding on it."
Mercer returns to competitive action as co-host of the Linger Longer on March 23 at Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, Georgia.
