
Softball Welcomes Florida A&M For Non-Conference Doubleheader

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team has continued to build steam as the 2013 season has progressed, having won six out of their last seven games, and will take a short break from conference play to host Florida A&M in a non-conference doubleheader this Wednesday evening.
The Bears have got off to a good start in Atlantic Sun play, going 9-3 and holding onto the fourth overall spot in the league thus far. Mercer is coming off its third series win in conference play this past weekend at Stetson, taking two out of three from the Hatters.
Wednesday's matchup with MEAC foe Florida A&M will give the Bears a short break before picking up league play again this weekend as Jacksonville heads to Sikes Field for a three-game set beginning on Friday night.
LAST TIME OUT
DELAND, Fla. – For the second day in a row, the long ball helped secure a win as the Bears took the season series against Stetson with a 12-4 final in five innings from Patricia Wilson Softball Field on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Randi Rea went yard for the third time in two days and junior Krista Kennedy connected for her second grand slam of the season as the two accounted for seven of the Bears 12 runs on Sunday. Mercer improves to 9-3 in the Atlantic Sun and 20-15 overall while Stetson drops to 1-5 in conference and 18-12 in 2013.

Florida A&M heads to Macon with a 7-25 overall mark in 2013. The Rattlers are currently being outscored by their opponents 178 to 61, but do have wins over SEC foe South Carolina and fellow A-Sun member North Florida. Florida A&M has hit just one homerun this season and have a .212 overall team batting average.
The Rattlers are led Ashanti Shepard and Kieifi Myrick. Shepard boasts a team-best .338 batting average with 25 hits while Myrick stands as the lone player on the roster to post double-digit RBI with 12.
Inside the circle, both Ashleigh Minter and Jennifer Lindsey each have three wins on the year with Lindsey leading the way with a 3.75 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
GAME NOTES
-Mercer's Krista Kennedy was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week this week for her outstanding performance at the plate last week. The junior belted two homeruns, including her second grand slam of the season to go along with 10 RBI to lead the team to a 4-1 mark in conference play.
-Fellow junior McKenzie Woody is tops in the nation in hits this season with 56 and is 26th in the country with a .455 batting average.
-As a team the Bears are second in the conference with a batting average of .307 which also ranks 44th in the country.
