
Softball Takes on FGCU in Crucial Conference Series

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team shifts gears from midweek non-conference play back to conference play as they take on the FGCU Eagles in a crucial A-Sun series.
Last Time Out
The Mercer Bears dropped a pair of non-conference matches at in-state rival Georgia Southern.
The first game saw the Bears allow four runs in the first inning that they would not be able to rally back eventually falling 4-0, leaving the Bears scoreless for the third time in four games.
The second match for Mercer saw the team show more resilience behind the plate as the team improved from just three hits in the first game to eight hits in the second.
Despite improvement behind the plate, the Bears unable to grab the win, falling 7-6 to the Eagles.
On the strength of two hits in game two, junior Krista Kennedy added three RBIs to her team-leading season tally of 46.
Sophomore designated player Molly Garmany was able to add two RBIs of her own in the losing effort.
Scouting FGCU
The Eagles come into the weekend series boasting an overall 24-12 record and a 5-3 conference record.
FGCU is lead by juniors Tori Williams and Chelsea Zgrabik, who lead the team in batting average. Williams leads the team with a .368 hitting mark while Zgrabik is not far behind with a .363 mark of her own.
The Eagles' pitching staff combines for a 2.73 ERA. Juniors Amanda Josie and Jocelyn Owen and sophomore Shelby Morgan have all seen time on the mound for FGCU. Josie leads the way with a 2.29 ERA while Owen and Morgan follow with a 2.73 and a 3.01 ERA respectively.
Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
