
Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Western Carolina

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team dropped its first outing at the UNC Wilmington Courtyard Classic Volleyball Tournament on Friday, suffering a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-19) defeat at the hands of Western Carolina.
Mercer's loss dropped the team to 1-7 on the year while Western Carolina improved to 7-2 on the year.
Sophomore outside hitter Molly Locke registered eight kills and nine digs in the loss, while junior setter Carly Iannarino collected 27 assists and five digs of her own.
The first set was locked at 7-7 before the Catamounts ripped off seven-straight points to take control. In the second set, Mercer held a 14-12 lead before Western Carolina rattled off six points to gain the upper hand. In the final frame, Western Carolina mounted an early 8-3 lead and never looked back en route to the deciding set win.
Senior Emily Rochefort piled up a match-high 19 digs in the losing effort.
Mercer returns to action in the tournament against UNC Asheville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
