MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team held its first scrimmage game of the fall on Saturday, giving almost half of the team their first game action in a Mercer jersey. The young team, including three transfers and five freshmen, spent two hours rotating pitchers and batters, preparing for their upcoming preseason exhibition games, which begin in October.
"We'll be about two and a half to three weeks into team practice when we first take the field for our fall games," head coach James DeFeo said. "I think what you're going to see then and what you're seeing now are going to be two totally different things."
The Mercer softball team begins their preseason play on Oct. 5 against Georgia College at Sikes Field. Other preseason contests include Georgia Perimeter on Oct. 12 and Darton on Oct. 13.
They will begin their regular season play with the Mercer Invitational on Feb. 7, featuring Mercer, East Kentucky, Samford, and Florida A&M.
