Men's Tennis Wins Home Opener 5-2 over Alabama State

MACON, Ga. – After starting the 2014 season with eight-straight matches away from Macon, the Mercer men's tennis team found its footing at home following a 5-2 win over Alabama State on Friday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

"We got off to a bit of a rough start in the doubles matches, but the guys did a good job of rebounding for singles play," assistant coach Tim McLane said. "We were able to get off to a good start and maintain our level of focus throughout the match."

After Alabama State (0-3) picked up the doubles point by earning wins at No 2 and No. 3 doubles, Mercer (2-7) began to go to work in singles play.

Sophomore Oliver Snaider got things started with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Alabama State's Dylan Cleary. Snaider was followed by victories from sophomore Arnav Mohanty at No. 2 and sophomore Anderson Scarpa at No. 3 singles.

The Bears eventually secured the match when sophomore Austin Emmet locked up the fourth point of the day for Mercer with a 7-5 (7-4), 6-4 win at No. 4 singles over Adam Coyne.

Mercer is back in action on February 2 when it travels to North Carolina to take on UNC-Charlotte.
