Men’s Soccer To Host Fourth Annual Baba Agbaje Memorial Game This Friday
10/8/2026 11:31:00 AM | Men's Soccer
MACON – This Friday, the Mercer men's soccer team will honor former Mercer scholar-athlete Baba Agbaje, who tragically passed in April of 2023, at the fourth annual Baba Agbaje Memorial Game against Wofford.
Agbaje played for the Bears for four years. He made four starts and appeared in 18 matches for Mercer while also being named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2020 and 2021. Head coach Brad Ruzzo described Agbaje as an incredible person and someone who embodied what it meant to be a Mercer Bear.
Baba was known for his contagious smile and laughter, bringing light and joy to anyone he crossed paths with. He was not just known as an athlete, but as an incredible person whom many people aspire to be like.
Baba's number one priority in life was to help heal the world. In honor of both his life and legacy, the Baba Agbaje Bread for Haiti Legacy Fund was created. This fund provides education, clothing and nutrition to the impoverished children of Haiti, where Baba visited many times to volunteer. Last season, the Bears beat Wofford, 5-4, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, due to a pair of braces from Fernando Arteaga and Junior Casillas. The Terriers scored four goals in the second half, but Casillas' goal at the 78:36 mark allowed Mercer to head home with the win.

Mercer fell to (0-8-3, 0-2-1 SoCon) this past Tuesday after losing to No. 17 Charlotte, 6-0. Junior forward Michael Raggett scored the first hat trick of his collegiate career for the 49ers.
