
Men's Lacrosse Falls at Michigan, 20-7

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior attack Zack Ward booked four points on two goals and two assists as the Mercer men's lacrosse team fell to Michigan, 20-7 at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse on Friday evening.
Mercer fell to 1-1 overall with the loss while Michigan improved to 1-1 on the season.
The Bears got off to a quick start as freshman Colin Massa found the net first just 1:09 into play. From there the Wolverines would score the game's next six goals to stake a five-goal advantage in the early stages of the second quarter.
Ward got on the board at the 14:23 juncture of the second period as he teamed up with junior Timmy Geran to cash in on the team's first extra-man opportunity of the night. Michigan retaliated with a 4-0 scoring streak that elapsed 5:09 of game time to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
Mercer held strong, playing the hosts to an even 3-3 score in the final seven minutes of the second quarter to go into halftime trailing 13-5. The Wolverines put the game away in the third quarter, using five goals to take an insurmountable 18-6 lead in into the final stanza.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Nugent made four saves in the losing effort while junior midfielder Justin Evans won 17-of-27 faceoff attempts.
Mercer returns to road action Sunday at Detroit-Mercy. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
