SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's game will be the fourth all-time meeting between Mercer and Winthrop. Mercer has won two of the three previous meetings. The two teams met last season in Macon, with the Bears coming away with a 4-2 win.
LAST TIME OUT
Hosting a top 25 team in the 17th ranked Georgia Bulldogs for the first time since 2010, the Mercer women's soccer team was unable to put away any of its scoring chances as the Bulldogs came out with a 2-0 win over the Bears Sunday night from Betts Stadium.
Georgia entered the game allowing just four goals in five games on the season, and was able to keep the Bears off the scoresheet for the first time this season.
SCOUTING WINTHROP
Winthrop enters Thursday's game with a 2-3-1 overall record. The Eagles are 1-1-1 at home. Mercer is Winthrop's fifth SoCon opponent this season. The Eagles are 1-3-0 against SoCon teams.
Winthrop was picked to finish sixth out of nine teams in the Preseason Big South Coaches Poll.
Through six games, Winthrop has scored eight goals and allowed 11 goals. The Eagles have scored more than one goal in just two games and have also only allowed more than one goal in two games.
Winthrop returned 13 players from last year's team. The Eagles had the following players selected to the Preseason Big South Players To Watch List: forward Lindsay Sheets, midfielder Monnsi Avila-Gutierrez, midfielder Cordeila McIntosh, and defender Mia Silber.
Sophomore forward Zaria Winston leads the Eagles offensively with two goals. She is the only Eagles player with more than one goal to her name.
Freshman goalkeeper, Mia Ruffalo is the only goalie to have played for the Eagles this season. In six appearances, Ruffalo owns a 1.83 goals against average and a .593 save percentage.
